Description

白亀甲 -White Hexagons- This piece is defined by a clear, luminous white ground, where lines of vermilion and gold stand out with crisp elegance, creating a feeling of purity and brightness. The kikkō pattern is a repeating hexagonal motif derived from a turtle’s shell, and has long been cherished in Japanese decorative art as an auspicious design symbolizing longevity, stability, and enduring happiness. By layering soft volume and fan-like folds onto this orderly geometric pattern, I shaped the piece to bring a sense of light movement into its refined structure. The beauty of the clear white base further highlights the outlines of the motif, bringing a poised brightness and graceful radiance to the space where it is displayed.
