牡丹 -botan- (Peony) This piece features a softly lustrous ground on which peony motifs in warm orange and white bloom beautifully. The peony is a traditional auspicious motif associated with abundance, splendor, and elegance, and its full, graceful beauty is gently reflected in this obi. The three-dimensional fullness of the tied obi echoes the layering of the flowers, creating a form with a soft sense of movement, as if it were gently unfolding. At the lower part, a fan-like shape adds a light flow and lingering rhythm to the overall composition.
