Description
桜扇 -Sakura Fan- This piece features cherry blossoms and fan motifs blooming vividly across a striking contrast of gold, black, and bright vermilion. In Japanese decorative art, cherry blossoms are cherished as symbols of spring, beauty, and fleeting grace, while the fan, with its widening shape, is regarded as an auspicious motif representing prosperity and a bright future. In this work, I reinterpreted the festive decorative knot of a furisode obi as a tapestry, shaping the fabric into a three-dimensional form that opens outward with fullness and movement. The result is a bright and memorable piece that brings the celebratory elegance of formal kimono dress into the space where it is displayed.
